Further to a notification from Phill Richardson, ADC West Wirral, there has been a change to the usual St Georges Day Parade and Church Service planned for this year. Phill has notified us that ….
This years Parade will be different. We will meet in the usual place at Orrysdale Road at 10:30 for an 11am start, but then we will then march from here and turn right out onto Grange Road, following the road and then left onto Dee Lane and down on to the Beach where we will then Parade and walk out to Hilbre Island to celebrate St Georges Day with a picnic and activities on the island before walking back to the Marine Lake and being dismissed about 2:30pm.
As many of you will know, Colin Ratcliffe, 1FG Group Scout Leader was invited to take part in the Virgin London Marathon 2015 on behalf of a Liverpool School for Visually Impaired Children and who are in partnership with Merseyside Scouts. Unfortunately the plans fell through due to an administrative error, so he is unable to take part, however, undeterred by this unfortunate set back, Colin has taken on a challenge to coincide a ‘marathon‘ run with the St Georges Day Parade, and incorporate as part of the route running onto Hilbre Island whilst all the Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers are there. The run, which is to be called the West Wirral Scout Hut Marathon and is 28.6 miles in total will visit every District Scout HQ in West Wirral and will be on behalf of 1st Frankby Greasby. He will shortly be putting up a JustGiving page to raise funds for the Group to help buy new equipment.
Here is a plan of the proposed route (click to enlarge), which starts and finishes at West Wirral HQ, Royden Park. There are 16 Group HQs along the route. Look out for more information coming through and how to support him in his challenge.
