Pine Cone Peanut Butter Bird Feeders

Posted on September 11th, 2014 by Colin Ratcliffe

This week our Scouts made Pine Cone Peanut Butter Bird Feeders.  What a fantastic and simple idea, and no need to have to handle lard or even make a real mess.

We thought it so good that to encourage the birds in your garden and help them over winter, we decided to share it with the group.  Why not have a go.  Here’s how …..

Peanut Butter Bird Feeder

Step 1 – Put down some newspaper to save on any spillage  and Take a pine cone that you have collected.

Step 2 – Wrap a string around the top of the pine cone for hanging.

Step 3 –  Tie a knot the string so it makes a loop.

Step 4 – Smear Peanut Butter all over the pine cone using a spoon or butter knife (use Crunchy peanut butter, the birds will love it).

Step 5 – Sprinkle any bird seed over the peanut butter all over the pine cone.  When done, put in a plastic bag and put into the fridge or freezer to set

Step 6 – Hang the pine cones on the limbs and branches of trees, the birds will love them!
